Brussels, 30/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 29 September, the Council of Ministers of the European Union decided to mandate the EULEX Kosovo mission to support the relocated judicial proceedings arising from the investigation by the EU special taskforce into the allegations made in the Council of Europe's Marty report in January 2011 (see EUROPE 111065).
The Marty report allegations focus inter alia on the alleged trafficking of organs from 500 Serbian and Roma prisoners during the Balkans war, and are made against Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci (who was a pro-independence guerrilla leader at that time).
The EU civilian mission has the mandate of helping and supporting the authorities of Kosovo in domains linked to the rule of law - particularly the police, justice and customs.
The Council has granted the EULEX Kosovo mission a budget of €55.82 million covering all its activities, for the period from 15 October 2014 until 14 June 2015. (MB and CG)
