Brussels, 05/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the next European Commission, presented the composition of his team on Friday 5 September (see other article) and is due to unveil the allocation of their portfolios next week. The current commissioner for agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, will not be part of the future college of commissioners. His successor is likely to be Phil Hogan from Ireland, who is currently Ireland's minister for the environment, community and local government. In search of female commissioners, Juncker asked Romania's prime minister, Victor Ponta, to propose a woman who, Juncker promised, would then receive the important portfolio of regional policy. Willing to answer this request, Bucharest proposed Socialist Corina Cretu, a vice-president of the European Parliament - which sidelines Ciolos. (LC)
