Joint committee on fisheries meeting

Brussels, 05/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - The EU-Morocco joint committee on fisheries met in Rabat on Thursday 4 September - ahead of the meeting initially planned on 10 September. Its consultations, which are intended to accelerate the implementing procedures, were due to continue on Friday 5 September and to result in a detailed agreement on the immediate application of the EU-Morocco fishing agreement.

The EU-Morocco fishing agreement is late - much to the frustration of Spanish fishermen, whose activity has been suspended since the end of 2012. The Spanish government is urged by the fishing organisations and the opposition to react more strongly in Brussels and Rabat so that the agreement might become reality, as a Socialist representative puts it. The owners of Spanish vessels “feel cheated because they have already paid for a licence that they can't use”, the representative said. (FB)
