Brussels, 25/08/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 25 August, the European Union hailed the announcement by Prime Minister of the Central African Republic (CAR) Mahamat Kamoun of the composition of a new government in the CAR. “We encourage Kamoun to attend to implementing the policy of reconciliation and national dialogue as quickly as possible, [which are] the essential prerequisites for a peaceful transition and for the organisation of credible elections”, says a statement published by the European External Action Service (EEAS) (our translation).
The EU reiterates its commitment to working together with the transition authorities in order to re-establish the authority of the state throughout the territory and to conduct the necessary reforms for the country's inclusive and sustainable development. “In this regard, restoring the rule of law, and in particular, respecting the fundamental freedoms of every citizen must be a priority”, says the statement. The EU also stresses “the importance of a genuine dialogue between all stakeholders” so that the transition under way might be “as consensual as possible”. (AN)
