Chairs and deputy chairs of EP committees

Brussels, 08/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - Following the election of the new President, the vice-presidents and the Quaestors of the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week, the parliamentary committees of the EP met in Brussels on Monday 7 July to vote in their chairs and deputy chairs. The legislative work of the European Parliament is carried out in 20 permanent committees and two sub-committees. Each committee elects a chair and four deputy chairs. Here is the list of the “bureau” of the Parliamentary committees of the EP.

Industry (ITRE): chair: Jerzy Buzek (EPP, Poland) for two and a half years, and then Janusz Lewandowski for the rest of the legislative period; deputy chairs: Patrizia Toia (S&D, Italy), Hans-Olaf Henkel (CER, Germany), Miloslav Ransdorf (GUE/NGL, Czech Republic) and Morten Helveg Petersen (ALDE, Denmark).

Economic affairs (ECON): chair: Roberto Gualtieri (S&D, Italy); deputy chairs: Markus Ferber (EPP, Germany) and Peter Simon (S&D, Germany) (the two others will be elected on 14 July).

Foreign affairs (AFET): chair: Elmar Brok (EPP, Germany) for two and a half years; deputy chairs: Ryszard Legutko (CER, Poland), Marina Albiol Guzman (GUE/NGL, Spain) , Ioan Mircea Pascu (S&D, Romania) and Andrej Plenkovic (EPP, Croatia).

Budget (BUDG): chair: Jean Arthuis (ALDE, France); deputy chairs: Petri Sarvamaa (EPP, Finland), Jens Geier (S&D, Germany), Siegfried Muresan (EPP, Romania) and Patricija Sulin (EPP, Slovenia).

Fisheries (PECH): chair: Alain Cadec (EPP, France); deputy chairs: Isabella Lövin (Greens/EFA, Sweden) Jaroslaw Leszek Walesa (EPP, Poland), Werner Kuhn (EPP, Germany) and Renata Briano (S&D, Italy).

Civil liberties, justice and home affairs (LIBE): chair: Claude Moraes (S&D, UK); deputy chairs: Kinga Gall (EPP, Hungary), Lliana Iotova (S&D, Bulgaria), Jan Philipp Albrecht (Greens/EFA, Germany) and Barbara Kudrycka (EPP, Poland).

Environment, public health and food safety (ENVI): chair: Giovanni La Via (EPP, Italy); deputy chairs: Benedek Javor (Greens/EFA, Hungary), Daciana Sârbu (S&D, Romania), Pavel Poc (S&D, Czech Republic) and Gilles Pargneaux (S&D, France).

Employment and social affairs (EMPL): chair: Thomas Händel (GUE/NGL, Germany); deputy chairs: Marita Ulvskog (S&D, Sweden), Danuta Jazlowiecka (EPP, Poland), Ulla Tornæs (ALDE, Denmark) and Agnes Maria Jongerius (S&D, Netherlands).

Legal affairs (JURI): chair: Pavel Svoboda (EPP, Czech Republic); deputy chairs: Lidia Geringer de Oedenberg (S&D, Poland), Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, France), Axel Voss (EPP, Germany) and Mady Delvaux-Stehres (S&D, Luxembourg).

Agriculture (AGRI): chair: Czeslaw Adam Siekierski (EPP, Poland); deputy chairs: Eric Andrieu (S&D, France), Janusz Wojciechowski (CER, Poland), Clara Aguilera Garcia (S&D, Spain) and Viorica Dancila (S&D, Romania).

Security and defence (SEDE): chair: Anna Elzbieta Fotyga (ECR, Poland); deputy chairs: Michael Gahler (EPP, Germany), Jaromir Stetina (EPP, Czech Republic), Afzal Khan (S&D, UK) and Sabine Lösing (GUE/NGL, Germany).

Development (DEVE): chair: Linda McAvan (S&D, UK); deputy chairs: Maurice Ponga (EPP, France), Paavo Vayrynen (ALDE, Finland), Kostas Chrysogonos (GUE/NGL, Greece), Nirj Deva (ECR, UK).

International trade (INTA): chair: Bernd Lange (S&D, Germany); deputy chairs: Tokia Saïfi (EPP, France), Yannick Jadot (Greens/EFA, France) Iuliu Winkler (EPP, Romania) and Jan Zahradil (ECR, Czech Republic).

Human rights (DROI): chair: Elena Valenciano (S&D, Spain); deputy chairs: Cristian Preda (EPP, Romania), Fernando Maura Barandiaran (ALDE, Spain), Laszlo Tokes (EPP, Hungary), Barbara Lochbihler (Greens/EFA, Germany).

Budgetary control (CONT): chair: Ingeborg Grässle (EPP, Germany); deputy chairs: Derek Vaughan (S&D, UK), Igor Soltes (Greens/EFA, Slovenia), Martina Dlabajova (ALDE, Czech Republic), Dan Nica (S&D, Romania).

Constitutional affairs (AFCO): chair: Danuta Hübner (EPP, Poland); deputy chairs: Barbara Spinelli (GUE/NGL, Italy), Pedro Silva Pereira (S&D, Portugal), Kazimerz Ujazdowski (ECR, Poland) and Paulo Rangel (EPP, Portugal).

Petitions (PETI): chair: Cecilia Wikström (ALDE, Sweden); deputy chairs: Rosa Esteras (EPP, Spain), Roberta Metsola (EPP, Malta), Marlene Mizzi (S&D, Malta) and Pal Csaky (EPP, Slovakia).

Internal market (IMCO): chair: Vicky Ford (ECR, UK); deputy chairs: Anna Maria Corazza Bildt (EPP, Sweden), Robert Rochefort (ALDE, France), Catherine Stihler (S&D, UK) and Sergio Gaetano Cofferati (S&D, Italy).

Transport and tourism (TRAN): chair: Michael Cramer (Greens/EFA, Germany); deputy chairs: Dominique Riquet (ALDE, France), Dieter Koch (EPP, Germany), Tomasz Piotr Poreba (ECR, Poland), Ismail Ertug (S&D, Germany).

Regional policy (REGI): chair: Iskra Mihaylova (ALDE, Bulgaria); deputy chairs: Younous Omarjee (GUE/NGL, France), Stanislav Polcak (EPP, Czech Republic), Joachim Zeller (EPP, Germany) and Andrea Cozzolino (S&D, Italy).

Culture and education (CULT): chair: Silvia Costa (S&D, Italy); deputy chairs: Andrea Bocskor (EPP, Hungary), Mircea Diaconu (ALDE, Romania), Helga Trüpel (Greens/EFA, Germany), Michaela Sojdrova (EPP, Czech Republic).

Women's rights and gender equality (FEM): chair: Iratxe Garcia Pérez (S&D, Spain); deputy chairs: Barbara Matera (EPP, Italy), Inês Cristina Zuber (GUE/NGL, Portugal), Vilija Blinkeviciuté (S&D, Lithuania) and the fourth deputy chair will be elected on 22 July). (LC)
