European Parliament's committee chairs elected on Monday

Brussels, 04/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's 20 permanent committees and two sub-committees will hold their first constitutive meetings on Monday 7 July. Each committee and sub-committee will elect its chair and up to four vice-chairs (election of the bureau).

A few of the names likely to fill the positions of chair are: Industry (ITRE): Jerzy Buzek (EPP, Poland) or Janusz Lewandowski if he is no longer a commissioner; - Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON): Roberto Gualtieri (S&D, Italy); - Foreign Affairs (AFET): Elmar Brok (EPP, Germany); - Budget (BUDG): Jean Artuis (ALDE, France);- Fisheries (PECH): Alain Cadec (EPP, France); - Civil Liberties (LIBE): Claude Moraes (S&D, UK); - Environment (ENVI): Peter Liese (EPP, Germany); the name of Françoise Grossetête (EPP, France) is also mentioned; - Employment (EMPL): Thomas Händel (GUE/NGL, Germany);- Legal Affairs (JURI): Viviane Reding (EPP, Luxembourg); - Agriculture (AGRI): Czeslaw Adam Siekierski (EPP, Poland); - Security and Defence (SEDE): Anna Elzbieta Fotyga (ECR, Poland); - Development (DEVE): Linda McAvan (S&D, UK); - International Trade (INTA): Bernd Lange (S&D, Germany); - Human Rights (DROI): Richard Howitt (S&D, UK) or Elena Valenciano (S&D, Spain); - Budgetary Control (CONT): Ingeborg Grässle (EPP, Germany); - Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO): Vicky Ford (ECR, UK); - Transport (TRAN): Michael Cramer (Greens/EFA, Germany) for two and a half years, then Karima Delli (Greens/EFA, France); - Regional Policy (REGI): Iskra Mihaylova (ALDE, Bulgaria).
