Brussels, 02/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is continuing with its goal to cut red tape in the EU and has launched two online public consultations on impact study procedures and public consultations. This consultation is part of the REFIT programme for smart regulation and will be open until 30 September. The Commission wants to gauge stakeholders' views in order to see how best it can improve these two tools that are there to help the Commission formulate transparent, balanced, proportionate proposals that respect subsidiarity.
Plans exist for public consultation and impact assessment guidelines dating back to 2009 to be reviewed this year. This public consultation is the first step along this path. So far, the Commission considers that these guidelines are still valid but that there is room for possible improvement. (MD)
