Strasbourg, 02/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 1 July, the European Union regretted the lack of political consensus within the Iraqi Council of Representatives the same day. “The EU calls on the political leaders of Iraq and other relevant actors to do everything possible to find a political solution to the crisis”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives adjourned its sitting in disorder after failing to launch the process of forming a government. The sitting was marked by exchanges of invective and recrimination from Kurds and Sunni Muslims towards the government of outgoing Shi'ite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. The next sitting of the parliament is planned for 8 July.
