30/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Holdiday destinations. According to Eurostat figures on tourist trips released on 27 June, Europeans prefer to go on holiday in their own country or in Europe. In 2012, seven out of ten European tourists holidayed in their own countries (particularly Romanians, Spanish, Greek, French and Portuguese). For the remainder, 85% travelled to other European destinations (citizens from Luxembourg, Belgium, Malta and Slovenia, in particular). Spain, France and Italy are the most popular destinations. European tourists prefer travelling by car (65%), aeroplane and train (15 and 12%). During their trips, Europeans go away for an average of five nights. (MD)
