25/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Energy security - Eufores calls for political certainty. Ahead of the European Council 26-27 June, the European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources (Eufores) has called on the leaders of the EU to show “strong political leadership to steer Europe into the right direction of a stable, independent and sustainable energy future”. “Policy uncertainty equals energy insecurity”, insists Eufores, which urges the 28 to ensure that the target of 20% renewable energy in primary energy consumption by 2020 is kept and to commit to ambitious and binding objectives on this, at EU level and in the member states, for 2030 and beyond. “The latest developments in Ukraine show that EU is in a weak strategic position. Heads of state have a crucial role to play: to establish policy certainty to build energy security”, the environmental association stresses. (EH)
