Brussels, 24/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - At its annual meeting, in Venice on Friday 27 June, the General Assembly of the Inter-Mediterranean Commission, which is part of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), will examine macro-regional strategies proposed for the development of neighbouring regions on the two sides of the Mediterranean.
During a roundtable discussion on the sidelines of the Assembly session, the European Commission will present two communications: one on “maritime perspectives and emerging strategies” in the Mediterranean and the other on its “action plan for the EU's strategy for the Adriatic”.
The organisers of the round table also said that a decision would be organised as part of the MED-SPRING programme would allow debate of measures for strengthening “ties between the stakeholders in the scientific, technological, research and innovation (STI) domains in the Mediterranean region”.
Preliminary results from an investigation will be presented on the “different domains of interest for the development of the Mediterranean basin, such as research and innovation, energy and climate change, water and waste management, culture and tourism, youth policies, maritime questions, transport and rural development”. A CPMR press release says that this exercise will help “identify appropriate experiences” as well as “the shortcomings and political requirements on the two sides of the Mediterranean” for promoting “more efficient cooperation in the future”.
