Brussels, 24/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) from the EU-28 to the rest of the world amounted to €341 billion in 2013, while FDI from the rest of the world to the EU28 stood at €327 billion, according to data published by Eurostat on Friday 22.
The FDI of the countries of the eurozone to third countries stood at €324 billion in 2013, whilst FDI from third countries to the eurozone was worth €299 billion.
The main destination of the investments of the EU28 was the United States by a long way (€159 billion), followed by the offshore financial centres (Liechtenstein, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Andorra, Gibraltar, Panama, Bermuda, Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, the Virgin Islands, Bahrain, Singapore, et al: €40 billion), Brazil (€36 billion), Switzerland (€24 billion), Hong Kong (€10 billion) and China (€8 billion). Disinvestment was registered in Russia (-€11 billion) and Canada (-€2 billion).
The United States (€313 billion) was also the largest investor in the EU28, followed by Brazil (€21 billion), Switzerland (€18 billion), Japan (€10 billion), Hong Kong and Russia (€8 billion each). The offshore financial centres disinvested in the EU (-€41 billion). (EH)
