14/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Bachy re-elected as AREV president. Meeting in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on 8-10 May, the Assembly of European Wine-producing Regions (AREV) decided to re-elect Jean-Paul Bachy (the president of the Regional Council of Champagne-Ardenne) as president of AREV. This is his third mandate. In a resolution, the European wine-producing regions call on the EU bodies negotiating the free trade agreements with the US to take account of the interests of European wine growing. Particularly concerned by the spread of grapevine flavescence dorée, AREV is mobilising for a technical exchange group to be able to follow the European Commission's steps to curb this vine disease in a concerted and effective way. Grapevine flavescence dorée is a similar disease to phylloxera. (LC)
