Brussels, 14/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) has begun cooperation with Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. In a press release on 14 May, EASO announced that Morocco and Tunisia would also be participating in the work of the Frontex agency on border management.
The meeting for kick-starting this first external EASO action was held in Malta on 13-14 May. The project is funded by the European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument, and according to EASO aims to “contribute to a better understanding of the function, operations and activities of EASO and Frontex and the role EU member states play within the organisations. Through the project, EASO and Frontex will assess and identify the technical assistance needs of Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia and the suitability of the existing EASO and Frontex tools for their possible adaptation” (our translation).
The EU has already signed mobility partnerships with Tunisia and Morocco and is negotiating one with Jordan. (SP)
