Brussels, 11/04/2014 (Agence Europe) - Many observers have expressed concern at a possible delay in the presentation of the White Paper on copyright, due to the record number of responses sent in as part of the public consultation on the revision of the European rules on this matter. However, according to a source close to the services of Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, the timetable for the end of May or early June will be respected. Considerable numbers of staff will be tasked with closely analysing the nearly 11,000 responses to this public consultation, which closed in March following an extension of the deadline on the grounds of its success. Many standardised responses are, however, said to have been sent in. The White Paper to be produced by the European Commission on this basis will lay down the political and legislative priorities for the next few years on copyright in the age of the internet. The outlines could also cover fair financial compensation for creators and private copy charges. (MD)
