18/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - China to abandon its anti-dumping duties on European polysilicon. On 18 March, German polysilicon producer Wacker Chemie AG and the Chinese minister for trade reached an agreement on a price undertaking, compatible with WTO rules. Under the terms of the agreement, European polysilicon exports must not be sold in China below a specific minimum price, while China will not impose anti-dumping duties on these products. China opened anti-dumping proceedings in November 2012 and anti-subsidy duties on European exports of polycrystalline silicon (an essential component for the manufacture of solar panels) in response to European investigations into Chinese solar panels. EU exports of polycrystalline silicon to China stood at €700 million in 2011. European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht welcomed the agreement that was sealed on Tuesday. (EH)
