Brussels, 18/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - New rules on marine equipment have been adopted by the members of the European Parliamentary committee on transport. They adopted the report by Dominique Riquet, on Tuesday 18 March, by 32 votes to two, with one abstention. This report explains that the procedures to market such equipment will be facilitated, reducing the risks to maritime safety, health and the environment, whilst cutting costs for national administrations as well as for companies. An electronic label will be attached by manufacturers to equipment on-board vessels flying a European flag and will replace the wheel-shaped logo previously used. This aims to make inspections easier. The new rules must be approved in plenary. (MD)
