Brussels, 05/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 5 March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton “strongly” condemned the bomb blasts in Bahrain on 3 March, which left three policemen dead and a number of others seriously injured. This attack is the most serious against the security forces since the bomb attacks began to target police officers. Ashton urged all Bahrainis “to unequivocally condemn violence, as has been done by the National Democratic Opposition Parties in Bahrain”. “A solution to the current difficulties in Bahrain can only be found through constructive and peaceful dialogue”, she said.
Ashton therefore called on “all parties to work towards a swift resumption of national dialogue without preconditions”, building on the initiative of Crown Prince Salman. “This is the only way to build bridges towards lasting national reconciliation, by addressing the legitimate grievances of the Bahraini people and advancing the current reform process”, Ashton stated.
