Brussels, 27/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - By 400 votes to 40 and 10 abstentions on Thursday 27 February, the European Parliament endorsed a visa-free travel scheme for Moldovan passport-holders in the Schengen area, who will be able to travel freely without a visa for three months once the EU Council of Ministers has formally adopted the new rules. The EP wants the Commission to rapidly introduce a similar scheme for Ukrainian passport-holders. On 19 March, the Commission will unveil draft legislation amending the EU's visa policy and gave a few hints of the new rules on Thursday. The changes will make it easier for rich tourists to enter Europe, like wealthy Russians and Chinese, who will boost the European economy. It will remove the visa requirement for 90-day travel by a number of categories of people, like researchers, artists and tourists. One-year visas, renewable once only, will be made available. (SP)
