27/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Ashton reiterates her call for dialogue and restraint. Deeply concerned about the recent serious incidents in Thailand, including the death of young children, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton reiterated her urgent call, on 26 February, for a dialogue leading to a lasting political solution based on democratic principles. She also called on all stakeholders in Thailand to act with the utmost restraint to prevent any further violence. On 23 February, a bomb exploded not far from a site occupied by protesters. It left two people dead, including a 12-year old child. Violence on the streets is taking place nearly every day in Bangkok, where 22 people have been killed in almost fourth months. (CG)
