Brussels, 10/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - European Commissioner for Transport and Vice-President of the European Commission Siim Kallas has shed some light on his political future and the turn his political career could take at the end of his European mandate. On Monday 10 February, he announced on Twitter that he does not intend to run for the European elections. Given that his daughter, Kaja Kallas, is running, former prime minister of Estonia Siim Kallas (2002-2003) wants to move aside and support his daughter.
After ten years in the European Commission, initially as the commissioner for administration, audit and anti-fraud (2004-2010), Kallas is seemingly to turn the European page and pick up the Talinn road. Estonian domestic affairs could indeed demand his attention as important political events are on the horizon - parliamentary elections in 2015 and presidential elections in 2016. (MD/transl.fl)
