Brussels, 10/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 6 February, the culture and education committee at the European Parliament approved the informal agreement reached by representatives of the Council of Ministers and European Parliament to extend the “European Capital of Culture” after 2020. The member states' permanent representatives to the EU (Coreper) also ratified the agreement on 29 January. This agreement paves the way for the official adoption by the Council of the decision to instituting EU action in support of European capitals of culture for the year 2020-2033, under the Greek Presidency. The label has existed since 1985 and has been very successful among the general public. (IL/transl.fl)
