03/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Dalia Grybauskaite to be candidate for presidential elections in May. On Monday 3 February, Lithuania's President Dalia Grybauskaite announced that she was going to stand in the Lithuanian presidential elections in May. “My decision is to work for you and I'm going to stand inthe presidential elections of Lithuania as an independent candidate”, she said ina speech. Grybauskaite is 57 years old and a former European commissioner for the budget. She would like the economic recovery that is under way in her country “to be felt by each family” and not only by “the oligarchs”, she said. Grybauskaite is the favourite for the next presidential election, and has had a steady support rate of around 40% over the last few months. (LC/transl.fl)
