Brussels, 10/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - More Germans than ever feel that it is beneficial for their country to be part of the European Union, according to a poll published on Friday 10 January, although Euroscepticism is gaining ground in a number of countries of Europe. Some 40% of the Germans polled say that Germany benefits from being part of the EU, 19% feel that it is detrimental, according to the monthly Deutschlandtrend poll for state television station ARD. In March 2010, only 25% of those polled felt that being in the EU was to Germany's advantage, while 27% thought the opposite.
The European elections will be held on 25 May 2014, and 64% of those polled wanted more common policy in the future, with only 31% feeling that member states should act on their own. The poll was carried out on 6 and 7 January among a representative sample of 1,004 individuals. (LC/transl.fl)
