Brussels, 10/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - A public consultation is being held on real-time road information services. Since the end of December, the European Commission has been seeking the views of stakeholders on issues relating to the use and provision of information, as part of the directive on smart transport systems (2010/40/EU). Real-time traffic information gives road users details of congestion, weather conditions, tailbacks and accidents but could be extended to include other information that could be useful in planning journeys and travelling.
The Commission is particularly interested to learn about problems with existing systems, what room there is for improving these services and the impact any new improvements might have. Using the responses received, it could draft specifications for real-time road traffic information services under Directive 2010/40/EU. The consultation runs until 14 March 2014. (MD/transl.fl)
