Brussels, 17/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - On his return from Tunisia, the leader of the Socialist Group (S&D) at the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, has called on the EU to continue supporting the democratisation process in Tunisia. He calls for cooperation to be increased in combating terrorism and in order to prevent deterioration in the security situation, which could have “disastrous consequences” for Tunisia and “also for the European Union”.
Swoboda, who met the highest authorities of the land in Tunis, was on a visit in connection with the commemoration of the start of the “revolution” on 17 December 2010. Three years later, the country is still living in uncertainty although it does seem ready to address that situation with the designation of a “technocrat” prime minister, Mehdi Jomaa. Swoboda said “this is a crucial time for Tunisia and I commend the efforts being made by those taking part in national dialogue” that has resulted in this relative resolution of the impasse.
