Council approves new EU-Morocco agreement

Brussels, 17/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 16 December, the Council of EU Ministers adopted without debate, the text for the new fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco, after having received the go-ahead by the European Parliament last week (see EUROPE 10981).

The Council adopted a decision on the signing of a new six-year fisheries agreement between the EU and the Seychelles (40 pole and line tuna vessels and 6 surface longliners). The financial contribution to be paid by the EU is €2.75 million for the first and second years of protocol application and €2.5 million for the other years (three to six), equivalent in reference tonnage to 50,000 tonnes a year. This will go towards supporting and implementing fishing and marine policies in the Seychelles. The Council also adopted the new EU-Comoros agreement (from 1 January 2040 for a three-year period, with fishing opportunities provided to 42 pole and line tuna vessels and 20 surface longliners). The Council also provided the Commission with a mandate for negotiating a new fisheries agreement with Senegal. (LC/transl.fl)
