Brussels, 17/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg believes that plans from UK Home Secretary Theresa May to regulate the arrival of European migrants are “illegal” and impossible to implement. According to several media, the plans would set a quota of 75,000 people per year. If the proposals were to be confirmed, they would be “illegal” and disastrous for the British economy, according the Clegg, as they would be for British workers in the EU. While sharing the fears of the British public regarding massive immigration and possible abuse of social services, UK Prime Minister David Cameron's coalition partner Clegg believes it is preferable to hold to policies that can be implemented - for example, by re-establishing “exit checks”. May defended the plans on Monday evening, saying that the threshold would only be applicable to future EU member states. (SP/transl.fl)
