Brussels, 05/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - A communication on urban mobility is expected to be presented soon by European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas. The commissioner made this announcement in Brussels on Wednesday 4 December during a conference organised by the Polis Association, which works towards finding innovative sustainable transport solutions.
Kallas said that “in a few weeks' time” his services would be putting a new communication on this issue on the table. The commissioner said that the document would support member states in developing and implementing “sustainable urban mobility plans that will help cities offer their citizens integrated and sustainable transport options”. He added that these options should help to promote clean local transport, particularly public transport, “a highly efficient way of using road space”, and that “we need more of it - not less”. He emphasised that public transport has to offer a high-quality service, which means punctuality, comfort and reliability. (MD/transl.fl)
