Brussels, 04/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 3 December in a press release, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) and the European Newspaper Publishers' Association (ENPA) repeat their concerns about the effect of the reform of personal data protection rules. They believe that this reform as it currently stands could damage the principles of press freedom and protection of sources. The two associations are therefore calling on justice ministers, who will discuss this dossier at their meeting on Friday in Brussels, to rethink these proposals on which little progress is expected to be made anyway. The two organisations again underlined the need to clarify the use of personal data for journalistic purposes, which they want to be as broad as possible so that investigative journalism can continue to exist. The European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) also gave its support to this call and asked for a clear and binding exemption for the journalism and publishing sector. (SP/transl.fl)
