Brussels, 21/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 20 November, the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the Member States (Coreper I) granted a mandate to the Lithuanian Presidency, to begin trialogue negotiations with the Commission and European Parliament on the draft regulation on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market. The aim is to reach an agreement during the first reading.
The regulation lays down rules to frame electronic identification and electronic trust services in e-commerce. The aim is to set up a legal framework for e-signatures, electronic seals, electronic time stamps, electronic documents, electronic delivery services and website authentication, etc. President of Coreper I Arunas Vinciunas said this was a priority dossier: “Our interest is to advance on this important dossier as much as possible during our Presidency. Adoption of this Regulation will ensure that electronic transactions are secure and reliable within the Union, and thus it will contribute a lot to proper functioning of the EU internal market”. The European Council 25 October, in its conclusions on the digital single market, called for the adoption of this proposal before the end of the EP's current term of office. The first tripartite discussions are scheduled to begin on 26 November in Brussels. (IL/transl.fl)
