Brussels, 20/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 20 November, the European Commission decided to refer Finland to the European Court of Justice over its rules on unemployment benefits that discriminate against people having worked in another member state.
Under laws in force in Finland, a person cannot expect the adminstration to take into account periods of unemployment benefits in another member state, unless the said person has worked in Finland for at least four weeks, or at least four months unemployed, immediately before becoming unemployment. Such a rule, the Comlmissin says, runs counter to the right of free movemnet and European rules on coordinating social security systems. (JK/transl.fl)
