EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) georgia

15/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - Continuing reforms after Vilnius. On 14 November, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle and Georgia's Minister for Foreign Affairs Maja Panjikidze agreed that after initialling their association agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius on 29 November, it would be important for Georgia to stay on track for signing this agreement in 2014 and to continue the necessary reforms for its implementation. After a difficult period of cohabitation, Füle said that it is “vital” for Georgia to remain “a pluralistic democracy with effective checks and balances, further strengthening democratic institutions and promoting constructive relations between the ruling coalition and opposition”. Recalling the EU's concerns regarding the “borderisation” activities along the administrative boundary line with Russia, Füle repeated the EU's support for Georgia's territorial integrity.
