Brussels, 15/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - Marian-Jean Marinescu (EPP, Romania), the EP's rapporteur on the Single European Sky 2 + (which is designed to correct shortcomings in Single European Sky 2) recommends simply removing the idea of functional airspace blocks (FABS) that have just wasted time and money. He explained as much to the EP's transport committee on Thursday 14 November. In the first part of his report, unveiled at the meeting, he recommends that the whole idea be redefined. Member states are dragging their feet over FAB implementation and have mostly rejected the new package. Marinescu also recommends setting up a single surveillance authority and a pragmatic approach to the dividing up of communication and navigation services, with cooperation still very much the aim. He said the Commission should not set over-detailed performance targets and member states should work together to introduce them. (MD/transl.fl)
