Marine le Pen and Geert Wilders polish up their anti-EU axis

Brussels, 13/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 13 November, the leader of the French national front, Marine Le Pen, travelled to the Hague to meet the head of the Dutch extreme right, Geert Wilders, and discuss a eurosceptic alliance ahead of the European elections in May 2014.

Le Pen and Wilders, who had earlier met in Paris in April, want to unify several Europhobic movements at the European Parliament with a view to forming a political group capable of making its voice heard. The group that Le Pen and Wilders envisage could include Belgium's Vlaams Belang, Italy's Lega Nord, Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) and Austria's Freedom Party (FPÖ) as well as parties from Northern Europe. Le Pen and Wilders ruled out an association with Hungary's Jobbik party and other Slovak, Romanian and Bulgarian nationalist members of parliament, however. (SP/transl.fl)
