Valuing co-sourcing

Brussels, 06/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - In order to address the deep crisis experienced by the countries in the north, south and east of the Mediterranean, the political and economic partnership between the two shores must be radically re-thought, said the think tank IPEMED, which is holding the Mediterranean Economic Week in Marseilles on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 November in collaboration with various other organisations dealing with the region. The theme for this year is “Co-sourcing in the Mediterranean: innovation and creativity serving regional integration”.

Co-sourcing aims to exploit the complementarity of neighbouring countries that have unequal levels of development, and it supports economic integration through production, says IPEMED.

The objective of the Mediterranean Economic Week is “to give more visibility” to the many local initiatives that “contribute to the development of Mediterranean economies”, and the Marseilles region aims to become an important centre for the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. This is an ambition shared by Barcelona - perhaps in competition with Marseilles. (FB/transl.fl)
