23/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton condemns violence against Coptic Christians. On 21 October, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton strongly condemned the previous day's attack during a Coptic wedding in Egypt, which left four dead and injured 17. She called on the Egyptian authorities “to ensure that the perpetrators of this unacceptable act are promptly brought to justice”. “States have an obligation to do everything in their power to prevent acts of violence against persons based on their religion or belief”, Ashton said. Coptic Christians have been the victims of numerous faith-based attacks over recent months. (CG/transl.fl)
