EAEA says quick response needed on adult skills

Brussels, 09/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - The report on adult skills, published on 8 October by the European Commission and OECD, is a wake-up call for immediate action from European countries, says the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA). Underlining the advantages that adult education can provide in times of crisis, the EAEA calls for a Europe-wide debate, and highlights the need to invest in training for adults in order to offer the opportunity to everyone of benefitting from learning. The report published yesterday (see EUROPE 10938) underlined the lack of adult skills - with one in five adults in Europe being weak in reading, writing and arithmetic. (IL/transl.fl)
