09/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - European observation mission for elections on 19 November. On 8 October, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton announced that the European Union will deploy an observation mission for the elections for the Constituent Assembly in Nepal on 19 November, in response to a request from the Nepalese authorities. The mission will be led by Eva Joly MEP (Greens/EFA, France). The elections “are a crucial step in the finalisation of the peace process and in the consolidation of the country's democratic transition”, Ashton stated. Over a hundred political parties are running for this election - the first since the Constituent Assembly election in 2008 after ten years of civil war. (CG/transl.fl)
