Workshop on water management

Brussels, 03/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 30 September and 1 October, the secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) - in association with the UN's Blue Plan and EMWIS (Euro-Mediterranean Information System on Know-How in the Water Sector) - organised a workshop in Barcelona on water management. The objective was to explore the way to harmonise the indicators used by countries and regional institutions for following up integrated water resources management policies. There is “a clear need to better streamline and coordinate processes of development and information sharing”, the structure states. The idea is to present a regional project on environmental information.

EMWIS is a Euro-Mediterranean Partnership initiative and it provides a strategic tool for exchanging information and knowledge in the water sector between and within the partnership countries. A database has been created. All the countries of the partnership are involved - the 28 EU member states and the 10 Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey).
