October 2013 is first month of European cyber security

Brussels, 30/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - In October 2013, the first European Cyber Security Month (ECSM) will take place. Its purpose is to promote cyber security among citizens, to change their perception of cyber-threats, and to provide up-to-date security information, through education and sharing good practices. The Executive Director of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA), Professor Udo Helmbrecht explained, “The European Cyber Security Month campaign makes it possible to share best practices, and to increase the results of the security communities' work”. More than 40 partners from both public and private bodies and, currently, stakeholders in 25 countries across Europe are participating in this intensive awareness building campaign (22 member states, in addition to Moldova, Norway and Iceland). ENISA is supporting this first full scale European Cyber Security Month, together with European Commissioner Neelie Kroes and the Commission Directorate General DG CONNECT. There will be more than 50 activities, including video, radio and TV talk shows and programmes, lectures, expert workshops, conferences, online games, and fairs in all ECSM countries.
