EU condemns horrific attack in a college

Brussels, 30/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday 29 September, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said that Ashton strongly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated by the extremist Islamist group, Boko Haram, in a college in north-east Nigeria, and called for and end to impunity for the perpetrators of such acts.

“The high representative condemns in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist attack perpetrated today in Yobe State and those that took place on previous days and weeks in northern Nigeria, in Abuja and elsewhere”, said the statement published by Ashton's spokesperson. The attack on 29 September “clearly targeted children and students. Those responsible for this and all other attacks must be brought to justice and be held responsible for their acts”, said Ashton's spokesperson, who offered the EU's condolences to the victims and their families. The attack carried out in the agricultural college of Gujba left at least 47 people dead. (AN/transl.fl)
