Brussels, 24/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 23 September, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton reiterated the EU's continued support for political transition in Libya, and she underlined that “the EU will continue to do all it can to assist Libya's reform process”. At the end of her meeting with Libya's Prime Minister Ali Zeidan, Ashton welcomed the adoption of the electoral law in July, saying that “it is important to keep the constitutional process on track”. While hailing Libya's efforts to reach out to its neighbours in seeking greater regional security, Ashton said she was concerned about the security situation in Libya. However, she welcomed the prime minister's ongoing efforts to address the issue. Ashton also said that it is “vital for Libya's economy and stability” that oil flows return to previous levels. She also expressed her satisfaction at the progress of the EU's assistance mission for integrated border management in Libya (EUBAM Libya). Lastly, Ashton and Zeidan agreed to remain in regular contact, particularly on the ongoing work on the planned framework agreement between the EU and Libya. (CG/transl.fl)
