Strasbourg, 11/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - Slovenia, Croatia and Austria are to benefit from €14.6 million from the EU Solidarity Fund (EUSF) as compensation for the damages caused at the end of 2012 by the flooding from torrential rain that lashed the whole region.
The European Parliament approved these amounts by adopting the resolution of José Manuel Fernandes (EPP, Portugal) by 683 votes to 15, with 4 abstentions. Aid will be divided as follows: Slovenia will receive €14.08 million because it was most badly affected by the floods (damages are estimated to be worth 1% of the country's GDP); Croatia will receive €286,587 and Austria €240,000 in aid.
Access to EUSF funding will soon be simplified and swifter after the European Commission presented a legislative review at the end of July, keenly awaited by Parliament, which had previously adopted a resolution in this sense (see EUROPE 10896 and10881). (MD/transl.fl)
