02/08/2013 (Agence Europe) - Prohibition registering certain Mercedes in France - Commission to decide on matter in September. The European Commission is to take a decision in September on the safeguard clause triggered by France with a view to maintaining the ban on registration of the new class A, class B and CLA found to be failing in their air conditioning system (see EUROPE 10897). On Friday 2 August, the Commission announced it had received notification from France under Article 29 of the directive on type approval which allows measures to be taken in the event of risk for the environment, health or road safety. The Germans, which challenge the French decision, have until 19 August to provide the explanations requested. After that, the Commission has ten weeks in which to take a position and possibly launch infringement proceedings. (LC/transl.jl)
