Brussels, 20/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - Elected representatives of the Mediterranean countries, members of ARLEM (Assembly of Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Authorities) met in Beit-Lahem (Bethlehem, in Palestine) on 15 June for an exchange of views and shared experience on urban mobility and water management.
Ramon Luis Valcarcel Siso, who chairs the EU Committee of the Regions (CoR), attended the meeting. He spoke of the crucial issue of local water management in the Mediterranean region, recalling the report on that issue adopted by ARLEM in 2011, one of the main aims of which was to underline the need for a decentralised approach in Mediterranean water strategy. This policy must, he added, be conducted in an integrated way, involving all the sectoral policies, all stakeholders and the different decision-making levels. (FB/transl.jl)
