Brussels, 29/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - The E3+3 (Germany, France, United Kingdom and China, United States, Russia) hopes to have fresh talks with Iran in July on its nuclear programme, according to the Russian ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov. Answering a question about the Western powers' intention to have fresh negotiations in July - in other words, a few days after the presidential elections in Iran - he said on 28 May that that “is what I understand”. “It would not be logical to expect a breakthrough before the elections”, Chizhov also said. The previous day, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said that after the elections seemed the right moment to reflect on another meeting. She said, though, they should wait and see how the elections go because there could be differences, depending on who is elected. The Iranian chief negotiator, Saïd Jalili, is a candidate in the elections. (CG/transl.fl)
