07/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns attack against Mahmadali Hayit. On 6 May, the EU delegation to Tajikistan condemned the attack on the deputy chairman of the Islamic Revival Party, Mahmadali Hayit, on 29 April and called on the government of Tajikistan “to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.” “As Mr Hayit is the representative of an important, legal opposition party, a transparent handling of this incident is important for the credibility of the forthcoming presidential elections” scheduled for November, the delagation stated in a press release, in accordance with the heads of mission in Tajikistan. Hayit was severely beaten by several people outside his home in the evening of 19 April. He was seriously wounded. (CG/transl.fl)
