N ew rules on pyrotechnic articles in the offing

Brussels, 11/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - According to a press release on Thursday 11 April, MEPs from the European Parliament's internal market committee agreed (28 votes to 1) to the provisional agreement concluded with the Irish Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers on new safety rules applicable to pyrotechnic articles. These new rules cut red tape for operators, enhance market monitoring and also include clearer labelling for consumers. These rules are part of a package of nine product directives still being discussed. They focus, inter alia, on the provisions on non-automatic weighing machines, simple pressure recipients, lifts, explosives for civilian use and electrical equipment. Some of the details of the text adopted by the MEPs on Thursday morning have still to be assessed by the member states, states the press release. The final vote is planned for the May plenary.
