Nurses increasingly asked to shoulder more responsibility

Brussels, 11/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - In the context of reforms initiated to develop innovative and sustainable health systems, men and women nurses are called upon to shoulder more and more responsibility - hence the need to ensure nurses receive quality training throughout Europe. The Irish Presidency of the EU Council organised a symposium in Dublin on 10 April on the evolving role of nurses in European healthcare. The aim was to discuss the possibility of developing a forum and network to gather ideas for an EU nursing strategy and action plan within Europe to advance the mobility agenda and the contribution of nurses to healthcare in Europe. This comes within the context of the forthcoming endorsement of the updated directive on the recognition of professional qualifications, especially healthcare professionals (Directive 2005/36/EC).
